TANDEM SKYDIVE
INFORMATION PACK - Get ready for the
RUSH!
Q: What is Tandem Skydiving?
A: A tandem skydive is where you experience all the thrill of skydiving
but are securely attached by a harness to a professional skydiving
instructor – a Tandem Master, who basically does all the hard work for
you! A tandem skydive allows you to
experience all the fantastic sensations of skydiving, but with no previous experience
– simply book, turn up on the day and jump (see below for more details).

Your tandem skydive experience will take around
an hour, however, due to the nature of
skydiving, you may find yourself waiting another hour or more for your
jump. There is a small Café at the Airport to have something to eat or just
enjoy a cuppa while you wait.
l
To start, you’ll be introduced to your Tandem Master
who will take you first through gearing-up, then a short briefing – this
ensures that you are aware of the basics of tandem skydiving and will enjoy the
dive to the maximum. Our Tandem Masters
are exactly that – masters at tandem skydiving. Each instructor has undergone rigorous training before being able
to obtain the necessary licenses to tandem skydive and have completed an
average of 5,000 –10,000 tandem jumps each.
No less than eight of our TM’s are National Skydiving Champions as well
– you are in the very best of hands!

Once everyone is kitted out, you’ll hop on the plane
and the adventure really starts. From takeoff up to altitude, you’ll enjoy the
magnificent scenery of the Sunshine Coast – take in the stunning coastal
scenery against the backdrop of the spectacular Glasshouse Mountains, before
making your skydive harnessed together with one of our professional
instructors.

As you exit the plane, you’ll experience 45 seconds of
absolutely amazing, adrenaline-pumping FREEFALL
from 12,000 feet, or 65 seconds from 14,000 feet before your parachute opens
and you float slowly and serenely through the sky to land on the soft, sandy
beach below.

Our courtesy
bus will pick you up from the beach landing zone and bring you back to the
skydive centre at Caloundra Airport, where you’ll collect your Certificate of Achievement and also any
Video or Photos you have arranged – see Video
& Photos Section. If you’d
rather stay at the beach, your goodies can be collected later, or the next day
– please just let us know in advance.
Q: 12,000ft or 14,000ft tandem skydives –
does it really matter?
A: The Higher You Go, the Longer the Freefall – A 14,000ft skydive takes
it to the limit – this is the highest jump you can do without
oxygen. The main benefit however is that the extra height gives you around
15 to 20 seconds more freefall. While your whole skydive is an amazing
experience, we know (because so many of our guests have told us) that it’s the
freefall element which is the truly unforgettable feeling. Those extra 15 seconds mean you have a
chance to get your head around things, relax a little after the first
adrenaline rush (let’s face it, you have just jumped out of a plane!) then
REALLY take in the feeling and enjoy your dive to the MAX. A minimum charge applies to upgrade (and is
subject to a minimum of 2 people per planeload, which we usually have).
Q: What are the Videos & Photos all
about?
A: They’re simply a great record of a great
experience! – Relive the magic over
and over with a personalised digital video and/or photos package. Camera work
is done one-on-one by a professional camera person who accompanies you every
step of the way (including jumping out of the plane!) so a video and/or photos
captures the whole skydiving adventure - gearing up, training, plane ride,
FREEFALL, scenery and landing! Videos
run for approximately 8 – 10 minutes, complete with music, while still photos
come in a whole roll of 24 PLUS the negatives so you can get as many reprints
as you want. A discounted camera work
package is available for people who want video and photos. To avoid disappointment, any camera work
needs to be booked in advance of your jump date.
Q: Which beach will we
land on?
A: We use Happy Valley (Bulcock Beach), Dicky Beach, Kings Beach or
Currimundi. However, where
we will land is dependent on the wind direction on the day (which can change
from hour to hour), so we can’t confirm where you’ll land until just before you
get on the plane. For those with more friends/family wanting to see you land,
we strongly recommend that they come with you to our skydive centre at
Caloundra Airport, watch you get geared up and then
go to the confirmed landing beach as you board the plane (they will have plenty
of time to get to the landing zone). A
sign up at reception will also confirm the landing location for each jump. Make it a day out on Caloundra’s fantastic
beaches - there are plenty of beach BBQ areas available.
Q: What do I Wear?
A: Dress according to the weather, i.e. if it is winter, wear warm comfortable clothes - in summer, shorts
or light pants and T-shirt are usually fine. We do ask that you wear shoes such
as runners/joggers. Contact lenses or spectacles are no problem (we provide a
pair of goggles to put over to put over your glasses), however, because of the
high speed – 200km/h - in freefall, there is a slight chance of losing the
glasses along with the goggles. It happened before.
Q: How many jump at one
time?
A:
Your jump aircraft
is the biggest & best in Australia!
We use a LET 410 aircraft, the largest skydiving plane
of its type in Australia. Most drop
zones can only take a couple of tandem skydivers at a time, however the LET 410
holds 18 people including instructors and camera people, so it’s great for
large groups wanting to share their skydiving experience. The plane provides a
very comfortable 10 – 15 minutes ride to altitude and those fantastic views of
the Sunshine Coast!
Maximum loads depend on whether anyone in
your group wants any photos or videos to record their skydives, but as a
guideline you can work on:

tandem jumps plus 2 tandem jumps with camera work (i.e. room for 8 guests) or
3 tandem jumps plus 4 tandem jumps with camera work (i.e. room for 7 guests) or
6 tandem jumps with camera work (i.e. room for 6 guests)
We can take up to
8-10 loads a day depending on conditions, so you could have a max of 80 people
skydiving in one day. The beaches at Caloundra make a great place to spend the
day watching people 'drop in' anyway!
FURTHER INFORMATION:
Booking Your Group’s
Skydive
You will need to book your skydive in
advance.
We jump seven days a week, all year round (except 25 December & 1
January). Jumps start at 8.00am daily and usually continue hourly throughout
the day until sunset (weather permitting).
Bookings are essential - we
are generally very busy all year round, so please make sure you book in advance
to avoid disappointment. It’s best if
you can request video/photo’s of your skydive, or upgrading to 14,000 ft, when
you book so we can organise everything for you straight away – leaving it until
the day of your jump might well be too late.

We strive to treat all our guests
with the best of attention and service at all times – before, during and after
your skydive! Maximising guest satisfaction is also the reason why we fix our minimum jumping height from 12,000 ft (not
8,000 or 10,000 ft as some other Drop Zones do), to ensure that you get at
least 45 seconds of fantastic freefall to experience what skydiving’s all
about. It’s also why we encourage you
to upgrade to 14,000ft to get the most you can get out of your jump. Don’t end up regretting not upgrading later
like so many past guests!
Sunshine Coast
Skydivers are
situated at the Caloundra Airport.
Coming north from Brisbane on the Bruce Highway - take the Caloundra turn-off, then turn right at
the second roundabout. Our office is a big white building on the left and has
Sunshine Coast Skydivers written on it – its pretty hard to miss!
Coming south on the Bruce Highway - take the Caloundra exit south of the Ettamogah Pub, and then follow
the same directions as above.
Coming south on the Nicklin Way - at the end of the Nicklin Way, turn right at the roundabout, then
left at the next one.

Conditions.
All Tandem
Skydive bookings and gift vouchers are subject to acceptance of our Terms &
Conditions of Business (see below)
1) CANCELLATION POLICY: a) If unable to skydive due to weather conditions, we will transfer
your jump booking to another day. b) If you find you are unable to jump on the
date booked we are happy to transfer your booking to another date, at no cost,
provided you let us know at LEAST 48 hours in advance. Should you decide to
cancel within 48 hrs of a scheduled skydive, bookings will be subject to a
cancellation fee of $55 each skydive booked.
2) GIFT VOUCHER VALIDITY: Gift Vouchers are valid for 12 months from date of purchase. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash.
Vouchers are transferable – please contact us to reconfirm details &
validity. Expired vouchers are
non-refundable.
3) RIGHT OF REFUSAL: We want everyone who jumps with us to have the best possible
experience, therefore Tandem Skydives are operated at the discretion of
Sunshine Coast Skydivers who retain the right to refuse to take skydivers for
reasons we deem valid such as, but not limited to, being in an unfit state to
jump (under the influence of alcohol or drugs) or guests not complying with our
jumping restrictions (see below)
4) RESTRICTIONS: Minimum age of 14 years, Maximum weight of 100 kgs. Guests under 18 years must have written
consent from a parent or guardian.
5)
REFUND
POLICY: Refunds are issued at the discretion of
Sunshine Coast Skydivers for fair and valid reasons such as continual poor
weather conditions.
